SKRIPSI : EFEKTIVITAS INTERVENSI MULTIMODAL MENGUNYAH PERMEN KARET DAN MOBILISASI DINI TERHADAP MOTILITAS GASTROINTESTINAL PASIEN POST SEKSIO SESARIA DI RSKD IBU DAN ANAK SITI FATIMAH MAKASSAR
Background: Cesarean section is the most common surgery which is asosiated with post operative changes in nervous system, leading to decrease bowel movements and driven problem. Some study has demonstrate that the use of gum chewing in the post operative period can increase the recovery of gastrointestinal motility and prevent ileus post operative. Different with early mobilization, the use of gum chewing still lack in implementation in hospital.
Aim and objectives : The current study assesed the effectiveness of gum chewing and early mobilization on the return of gastrointestinal motility of patients post ellective cesarean section in RSKDIA Siti Fatimah Makassar.
Methods : A Pre-Experimental Design with Static Group Comparison method, 20 patients undergoing elective sesarean section were randomly divided in to 2 group. Gum chewing and early mobilization as study group (n=10) and early mobilization as control group (n=10). Patients in study group postoperatively chewed sugar free gum every 4 hour start from 4 hour after surgery for 30 minutes each chewing untill the passage of first flatus. The patient demographic, characteristic, and duration of bowel motility (mean time of first flatus) were compared in the two groups.
Result : There were no significant different beetwen 2 group regarding patient demographic, intraoperatif, and postoperatif care. The study and control group patients were comparable at inclussion. The mean time of gastrointestinal recovery signed by the appearance of the first passage of flatus was significantly shorter in the study group (P=0,047).
Conclussion : The study result demonstrated the mean time of gastrointestinal recovery in gum chewing group is shorter significantly than the control group.
Recomendation: It is recommend to RSKDIA Siti Fatimah Makassar party to make this research as a consideration in postoperative caring procedure for woman undergoing cesarean section so that gastrointestinal motility recovered faster.
