Ebook : Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Nursing Practice
A book on cognitive behavioral techniques for advanced practice nurses (APNs) would be incomplete without a discussion of nursing models and nursing grand theories. Nursing practice is based on nursing knowledge. Nurses use discipline-specific models when deriving and evaluating theoretical concepts. However, it is possible to link existing theories to nursing models when commonalities are found. This chapter examines these linkages in a Roy/CBT nurse psychotherapist's practice as compared to the nurse practicing from a CBT or medical model approach alone. By integrating a nursing model with an empirically validated theoretical approach to psychotherapeutic strategy, a nurse psychotherapist is in a unique position to provide biopsychosocial integrative and holistic care unlike that provided by any other practitioner.
