Reflections on the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care: Recommendations on Screening for Developmental Delay
InMarch 2016, theCanadianTask Force onPreventiveHealth Care (CTFPHC) released their guideline recommending Bagainst screening for developmental delay using standard-ized tools in children aged one to four years with no apparent signs of developmental delay and whose parents and clini-cians have no concerns about development^[1]. Using the Grading of RecommendationsAssessment, Development,
and Evaluation (GRADE) system, the CTFPHC graded this as a strong recommendation with low quality evidence [1]. The guideline was released following a rigorous process, be-ginning in 2013, which included establishing a working group, developing key and contextual questions, determining critical outcomes of interest, and establishing the analytical framework and research protocol. A search strategy was de-veloped and an independent systematic review was undertak en [2]. At several times during this process, content experts, stakeholders, and peer reviewers provided review and feed-back. The final guideline was reviewed and approved by the entire task force. Finally, the guideline manuscript underwent the usual independent journal peer reviewprior to publication.
