Electrosurgical vaginal hysterectomy in patients with a non-prolapsed enlarged uterus: a retrospective cohort study comparing postoperative outcomes
Traditionally, a large uterus (as defined by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists as a uterine mass of >280 g) has been considered a contraindication to vaginal hysterectomy [1]. When comparedwith abdominal hysterectomy, the vaginal
route has been associatedwith a shorter length of hospital stay and speedier return to normal activities [2,3]. Vaginal hyster-ectomy of an enlarged uterus has been shown to be a safe procedure despite a prolonged operating time and increased intraoperative blood loss [4].
