Ovarian endometrioma in the adolescent: a plea for early-stage diagnosis and full surgical treatment
Abstract The incidence and severity of endometriosis in ad-olescent are comparable with the incidence in adult women. The mean delay between the onset of symptoms and the final
diagnosis varies between 6.4 and 11.7 years. The longer the diagnosis is delayed, the more the endometriosis can progress to a more severe stage certainly in the group of patients with pelvic pain. The evolution of endometriosis and its progres-sivity are not predictable, and the severity of the disease is not directly related to the degree of pain.
